how search engine works
Search engines use bots( computer robots) to crawl a site. It is also known as spider or crawler. When a crawler find a new website,it is indexed in search engines directory. After getting listed in a search engine directory its value is determined on various factors.
Google calls this value as PageRank. What are the exact factors to determine PageRank is only known to Google search engineers. One of the main factor is backlink. Backlink is a link from other site to a site. Generally those types of backlinks are counted that came from a relevant and high quality site.
Not every pages of a web site get same PageRank. Those type of pages get more PageRank that are more valuable to users in according to Google.
Other search engines like Msn works in same manner. So a page with more quality backlinks get a higher pageRank and likely to come up in top positions in search results for its relevant keyword.

how to increase adsense earning

About 18 months ago I made my first change that prompted an increase in earnings. I had a right aligned skyscraper, and following advice here I tried a large rectangle central to the page. earnings doubled, and remained high. I started to see some days when my epc was really silly.
Then came smartpricing, and like most webmasters I saw a drop. This slide continued for a couple of months, but I made one further major change that arrested the fall, and has turned the trend line on the chart in a positive upward direction. This change was over a month ago.
The change was to add any scraper sites and made for adsense sites that I saw on the site to the block list. My list isn't large - probably 30 sites, but it's enough to ensure I have well targetted ads the vast majority of the time.
The initial result of this change was to have the clicks/ctr drop by half. however, the epc was over double. The result was a 20% increase in earnings.
The longer term effect on seeing only relevant, quality adverts on the site is that smartpricing *seems* to have upped my site in it's rankings of providors of quality traffic that converts, hence I'm seeing a further increase in epc.
I know that some will say that the changes are probably due to external factors. I've been with adsense since Jan '04 so I am aware that what you earn often has no elation to what you do, and the externals are beyond your control. however, the externals cause short term blips - not sustained improvement.

freelance writing
If you pay attention to movies and television shows that feature people living in New York City, you will see that an abundance of characters are “freelancing”. A freelance writer is an independent contractor who writes for a publication. Freelance writers can write for magazines, newspapers, and online markets. Using a freelance writer allows the publication to publish a variety of voices with different points of view and experiences, but also saves the publication money; since they are paying the writer per assignment and are not providing benefits.
As a freelance writer there are numerous markets ready to hire you. The online market is growing everyday as more and more websites pop up. These websites need content for the website and many of them have e-newsletters that are sent out on a weekly or monthly basis. Pay rates vary wildly in the freelance world. Some publications pay upwards of $1 per word and some pay one cent per word, and some do not pay at all! As a beginning writer, you will be earning fees on the low end of the scale, but as more of your work is published and you gain experience, you can begin asking for more money.
Contrary to what Hollywood portrays, you don’t have to live in New York City to enjoy a career as a freelance writer. If you want to work from home and enjoy writing, you can have a successful career as a freelancer, even if you live in Small Town, U.S.A.
